Spin a Bulky Yarn

Remember when you first began to spin and were only spin a fat lumpy yarn then after learning to spin a fine smooth yarn and it was impossible to spin bulky? In this retreat session our students will learn skills and strategies of fiber preparation and methods for spinning that will help them regain their “bulky chops”.

    These are a couple of pictures of my demo and the students in the Spinning A to Z class. This is a great class for the beginner, as it offers everything you need to know to go home and spin. We learned basic spinning and drafting with roving; discussed washing wool (not the right venue for washing a woolie), carded and combed wool for woolen, worsted and color effects; plying and finishing your yarns. At the end, for the students that wanted to give it a try, we spun silk from roving
